Real Madrid ready to test Man Utd resolve with £150m Paul Pogba bid as Bale exit looms

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane looks to finally be getting his wish with Bale close to sealing a move to the Chinese Super League.

The Wales international is on the verge of signing a massive deal worth a reported £1m-a-week to join Jiangsu Suning.

Bale’s exit would finally free up his £600,000-a-week wages, and according to The Sun, Real are now readying an assault on Manchester United and Pogba.

Pogba, 26, has been a key target for Zidane all summer while the France international has previously spoke of his desire to play under his compatriot one day.

Real Madrid are in the midst of a huge summer overhaul of the squad as Zidane attempts to get his team up to scratch for the new season.

Los Blancos were way off the pace last season in all competitions but saw rivals Barcelona romp to yet another La Liga title.

Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo, have all joined for close to £300m but getting Pogba would send out a real statement of intent to their rivals.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists the club do not want to sell with just two weeks remaining of the transfer window.

But should Real Madrid meet United’s £150m valuation of Pogba, the Premier League side could be swayed to sell.

The Red Devils paid Juventus £89m for Pogba to bring him back to Old Trafford in 2016.

Selling Pogba for £150m would be the biggest transfer in Premier League history, topping the £145m Barcelona paid for Philippe Coutinho last January.

Pogba still has three years remaining on his United contract and if they really do not want to sell, they will not be pressured by Real.

The midfielder was unhappy with life in Manchester under previous boss Jose Mourinho and his form was affected, but under Solskjaer his performances improved.

But while he has honoured his duties in pre-season and not kicked up too much of a fuss about an exit, he would surely jump at the opportunity.

Pogba wants to win more trophies and with United failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League they are facing another season going into the unknown.

Alhough Bale’s deal is close, it must be said that negotiations are still ongoing, with lawyers working on the detail of the contract and complex image-rights issues.

The Chinese transfer window closes on Wednesday and the Welshman’s long-standing agent Jonathan Barnett is believed to be confident a deal will be concluded in time.
